Watercolor Magic: Informal and Instinctive Basics
People like the freshness of watercolor paintings – but many think it is an ‘unforgiving & difficult’ medium. With a little planning and some basic understanding, you can make friends with watercolor. This class will familiarize with basic applications, and use of wash, lifting, and texture techniques in painting landscapes.
Come escape for an artist’s weekend retreat with Mary Beth Morrison.
March 12 -14th at Wilson Lake Inn $199*
Your retreat begins with a Wine and Cheese Reception with Mary Beth on Friday evening at 7pm. After breakfast at LaFleur's Restaurant you will begin your six hour Watercolor Workshop at 10am to 12N and lunch will be served at noon. Your afternoon session runs from 1:30 to 3:30 pm. The group will be on their own for dinner. Sunday morning 10:30am - 12:30pm will be the third part of the workshop. You will have time to continue your painting Saturday afternoon and evening.

Painting in watercolors since 1991, Mary Beth now includes pastels, oil and acrylics in her painting interests. She loves to paint the Maine land, sea, and sky, still lifes and buildings. She has been painting abstract work as ballast to representational stuff the last several years. Figures appear in these works, which generally tell a personal story. Last summer, plein aire work in pastel was Mary Beth’s goal. A flip creativity is pottery work, in which she is still finding her feet, but continues in it as another creative dimension. She worked with printmaking, wire wrapping, encaustic, and fabric dying this year, too.
Mary Beth has shown her work locally throughout Maine, and is included in private collections here and in far flung places as a result of selling work in art shows, juried events and donating to worthy causes. She enjoys taking art making trips with painter friends in summer and fall and regularly engages granddaughter Stella in art making days. (Stella’s abstract work is really good, and her facility in painting figures is improving fast.) She serves on Upcountry Artists board and believes in art collaboration. She offers workshops in creativity, and watercolor lessons.
